From Classroom to Community: How Young People Secured £3,000 for MOP!

On Wednesday 10^th June, Carolann and Shannon had the privilege of attending the national YPI event, #GenerationChange - and what an inspiring day it was! For anyone new to YPI, it stands for the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative, delivered through The Wood Foundation.

YPI is a powerful active citizenship programme that empowers young people in secondary schools across Scotland to explore the social issues affecting their local communities. Pupils research grassroots causes, connect with local charities and deliver passionate presentations as they compete to secure a £3,000 grant for their chosen organisation.

Since launching in Scotland in 2008, YPI has engaged more than 400,000 young people from localities across the country and directed over £9 million to grassroots charities — an incredible impact driven by young voices and big ideas.

From the moment Shannon & Carolann arrived at Perth Concert Hall, they were genuinely blown away by the scale of the programme, the incredible numbers shared and the outstanding standard of charitable work being led by teenagers in schools across Scotland.

Throughout the event, Shannon & Carolann had the chance to hear young people from across Scotland speak with confidence and compassion about the charities they represented - supporting causes linked to domestic abuse, poverty and inequality, medical conditions such as epilepsy and many more. The standard was exceptionally high and the energy in the room was amazing. To top it all off, they also enjoyed brilliant music from Nathan Evans and Saint PHNX, making the day even more memorable.

This year, MOP was delighted to be the recipients of a £3,000 grant thanks to a fantastic group of pupils from Glenwood High School. They did an outstanding job of shining a light on the work MOP does supporting families and we are so grateful for the way they understood our service and brought it to life through an interactive, dynamic and heartfelt presentation.
