Happy Friday group – The Happy Friday parent group meets at 1-3pm in our office in Glenrothes. The group aims to promote positive mental health and well being. It is a safe and friendly place where parents can come with their children and socialise with other parents. One of our experienced social workers runs the group and can assist parents to help them build their self-esteem and recognise their strengths. We also provide an opportunity for parents to learn new skills, such as jewellery making, and making a variety or arts and crafts.
There is a strong focus on providing opportunities for parents around employability. We work alongside other agencies, such as Fife Voluntary Action and The Auchmuty Learning (Adult Education) centre whom come into the group and meet with the parents. Our Project also gives parents the opportunity to attend our in-house staff training and invite parent to attend our AGM and fund-raising meetings. We have had very successful outcomes with many of our parents, accessing volunteering opportunities, securing employment or going into Higher Education.
The group can also access information and provide support on areas such as housing issues, benefits advice and any issues around parenting.
Wednesday support group – This group was set up in conjunction with the Cairn Mhor childcare partnership to support parents of children who are already in the care system or are at risk of being removed from the family home and placed in the care of the local authority. The group meets at our office in Glenrothes at 6-8pm on a Wednesday evening and we provide both the transport and a crèche facility so that the parents do not need to worry about childcare issues.
